John Harbaugh

I know this post is entitled John Harbaugh so it should be directed purely at the statements he made about the Patriots organization being tainted with the scandal, but sadly I am just using that as a springboard. I am not gonna talk about his statements per say but about his later apology. Most times when athletes or public figures go out and say something really stupid they come out a couple of hours or days later with an apology.

Just stop it.

We all know that despite what your apology says it is not what you mean. If that is what you meant you would have said it initially and we would be in this predicament. And yet here we are, because you continue to apologize to cover your tracks.

Honestly there are only very few times that you should apologize for something you said, friends are great, but if you feel something strongly enough that you are willing to say it to the public then stick to it. I am talking to you John Harbaugh, Bobby Valentine, and the countless others who issue apology statements in retrospect.

The one example of when it is alright to apologize is when you say something stupid and offensive. We know you mean it but the public deserves an apology. The prime example of this is what Ozzie Guillen said a few weeks back about Fidel Castro.

But that is a small percentage of the public statements that get retracted due to someone apologizing.

Look I am all for being buddy buddy and trying to make friends in the workplace, but as a fan I know what you really mean, and personally I love the drama. It is fun to see people in this profession fight and develop a rivalry. This kind of intensity is why we watch sports, not for the friendly smiles and handshakes.

So please for all of us, if you mean something then say it and stick to your guns because your apology is helping no one.
