After a sweep last weekend in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, the Buckeyes women’s hockey team looks to climb the WCHA standings with a six game home stand. Up first for Ohio State is Bemidji State who is currently tied for third (with Wisconsin) in the WCHA and are three points up on the Buckeyes. It is critical for Ohio State to pass either Bemidji or Wisconsin so they can put themselves in position to host a first round playoff series. In an October series in Bemidji, Ohio State beat and tied Bemidji State to skate away with three points. This should give Ohio State an advantage in that they know what they are up against this weekend. “(They’re) hardworking, we are going to have to come out strong,” said sophomore forward Laura McIntosh. Despite all that the Buckeyes have accomplished this year McIntosh said she still feels like Ohio State is underestimated, “Last year we did not have a very good year so I think lot of teams underestimate us but I think we’re coming a long and they’re starting to see what kind of team we are.” Some big wins on this home stand will go a long way to making the rest of the WCHA take notice of these Buckeyes.
You can listen to both games this weekend on Scarlet and Gray Sports Radio as the Buckeyes and the Beavers play Friday at 7pm and Saturday at 2pm.
